A Raisin in the Sun

Creative Writing: Choose a character from Hanberry’s A Raisin in the Sun and write at least a diary or journal entry that this character might have written. Try to reflect what is happening in the play in the entry and be sure to include the character’s private thoughts and ideas.  You should also use the information you learned from the “Cultural and Historical Contexts” reading to shape the diary entries; in other words, try to have the diary entry reflect the character’s experience of the larger world around him or her, based on current events of the time.

 OR

Choose a character from the brief excerpt of Bruce Norris’s Clybourne Park (whose two acts feature a prequel and sequel to Hansberry’s play).  Write a diary entry for one of those characters that reflects the heated, though somewhat awkward, a discussion that happens in the excerpt. Recall that the journal entry could detail how a character really feels versus what they seem able to say to one another in public.
