Requirements:
Attend the CF wearing appropriate attire. Appropriate attire is defined as “business casual” or “business professional”. Not only is “business casual” or “business professional” attire required for this assignment, you will not be admitted to the CF unless you’re dressed appropriately. You will also need your ISU student ID in order to be admitted to the CF. Definitions and specific examples of these styles of dress are provided on pages two and three of this document.
Talk with at least three employer representatives to inquire about things such as:
Types of positions they have available
Skills/qualities they’re looking for in candidates
Other items related to your own personal interests
By Wednesday, October 1 turn in (during class) a two to three page paper outlining your CF experience. The paper must answer the following questions:
Which employers did you talk with? (company names and recruiter names)
What did you learn from these employers?
In general, how has your participation at the CF impacted your career development? (You may want to mention your overall impression of the CF, career options you’ve decided to pursue, what surprised you about the CF, etc.)
The paper must be typewritten. Other requirements for the paper are that it must be:
Double spaced
Size 12 font
Pages must be stapled
Your grammar and the neatness of your paper will be taken into consideration when determining the number of points you will earn on this assignment. Again, your paper must be typed. It will only be accepted in hard copy format in class on or before the beginning of the class session on October 1.
Appropriate Attire for the Career Opportunity Fair
As outlined above, this assignment requires that you are dressed in either “business casual” or “business professional attire” when you attend the Career Opportunity Fair.
SHORTS, JEANS, AND FLIP FLOPS ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THE CAREER OPPORTUNITY FAIR!
Whether you choose “business casual” or “interview attire”:
Iron your clothes. You don’t want to look like you slept in them!
Make sure your shoes are clean and not scuffed. You may want to polish them.
Cover tattoos if possible.
Remove visible piercings (other than in ears).
Women should avoid low cut or form-fitting clothing.
Make sure your hair is clean and combed.
Examples of “business casual” for women:
Khakis or slacks
Knee-length or longer dresses/skirts
Sweater sets
Long or short sleeve blouses
Non-athletic socks and shoes
Dress shoes, heels, or boots
Wide range of “business casual” for men:
Casual End: Pressed khakis and a polo-style shirt
Nice End: Dress slacks and a long sleeve button down
Shirts must have a collar
Cannot wear athletic shoes or socks
“Business professional attire” is the most conservative and classic business look.
Examples of “business professional attire” for women:
Suits (slacks or skirt):
Color: Navy, gray, cobalt blue, and black
Length of skirt: at or below the knee
Blouse:
Best fabrics: Silk, cotton, or rayon
Solid color
Modest cut
Shoes:
Match your suit, no contrasting tones
Color: Black or navy
Style: Closed toe pump with small heel
Accessories
Neutral hose
Belt and purse match shoes
Jewelry: subtle – do not want to draw attention to any one thing
Examples of “business professional attire” for men:
Black, gray, navy suit (top and bottom match)
Solid color, long-sleeved shirt
Simple ties – no crazy patterns or cartoon characters
2 or 3 button jackets are OK (always leave bottom button unbuttoned)
Color of your belt & shoes must match
Socks need to be long enough to cover your leg when your legs are crossed
