Select a term from your field.
Write an extended definition for a first-year student in the field. For this portion of the assignment, use at least one outside reference and cite the reference appropriately. List the types of expansion techniques you used (minimum of two different techniques for each expansion). Write an extended definition for a layperson. For this portion of the assignment, use at least one outside reference and cite the reference appropriately (both within the document and on the citation page). List the types of expansion techniques you used (minimum of two different techniques for each expansion). In addition, give a summary explanation of your changes (not a summary of the definition). A summary explanation will include what you changed from one definition to the other and why you changed it.

Descriptions
As a group (or individually based on your instructor’s decision), select an item from the following list and write a technical description of the item:
A paper stapler
A yo-yo
A penknife
A mechanical pencil
A pair of scissors
A paper stapler remover
A ballpoint pen
The description should include the following sections: introduction, background (what is it?), parts and characteristics, operations, and processes. Write for an audience of your choice and be sure to identify the audience. You may use graphic illustrations; however, illustrations are not required.
