1.) Write and submit a 1.5 – 2 page essay (typed, double spaced) in response to one of the NEW possible essay questions for chapters 17 – 20* below.
* You should select and focus on appropriate specific examples from the text of Their Eyes Were Watching God.
* Be sure to include specific quotes to support your argument (cite chapter & page #).
* And to receive credit, you must notify me at the beginning of class which topics and chapters you wrote about in your essay.

2. Think back on examples of domestic violence in the novel: How are these incidents portrayed? What do you think is the novel (or novelist’s) attitude toward domestic violence?

4. How does Phoeby respond at the end of Janie’s story? What is Janie’s final advice to her best friend?
