Based on one of the Navajo selections from the readings within the lesson and the document entitled Oral Literature: Myths and Legends respond to the following prompt by providing an effective introduction (with a thesis), body, and brief conclusion:

Using terminology found within Oral Literature: Myths and Legends discuss how effectively your chosen story serves as a way to:

  • preserve the culture and history of a people
  • teach about relationships between people and/or between people and nature
  • entertain and/or amuse

Hint: It is okay to judge the effectiveness of each of the three items differently!

 

Scoring:

Answers the prompt by providing a thesis within the introductory paragraph (10 pts)

Discusses each of the three items within the body of the paragraph (30)

2ND ASSIGNMENT

 

The subjects and themes within eighteenth century American literature are closely tied to the ideas about government and the developing American nation.

 

Identify the most significant ideas about government that are represented in the readings from this lesson. Discuss how the different ideas that you present impacted the development of the American nation. Finally, discuss the developing idea of what an American is during the mid to late 18thcentury.
