Unit 3 Assignment: Creating a Brochure for Pregnant/Lactating Females

Unit outcomes addressed in this Assignment:

• Compare appropriate pregnancy weight gains for underweight, normal weight, and overweight women.

• List nutrient supplements that are recommended during pregnancy. • Discuss how energy needs increase during lactation. • Discuss nutrient needs that are increased during lactation.

Course outcome assessed/addressed in this Assignment:

• NS325-1: Discuss how nutrient needs change throughout the life cycle. • NS325-2: Describe nutritional needs of mothers during pregnancy, childbirth

and lactation.

Instructions:

Create a brochure for high risk pregnant females, i.e., pregnant teens, and women >35. The brochure needs to include the following information:

• Provide weight gain recommendations for over, normal, and underweight females

• Indicate 2 macronutrients and 2 micronutrients pregnant females need to consume at a higher amount than when not pregnant. Include the recommended amounts based on RDAs and provide at least 2 examples of foods that contain these nutrients

• Indicate 2 risk factors for pregnant females who are <16 years of age and >35 years of age

• Provide the energy needs for the 1st 6 months of breastfeeding and 2nd 6 months of breastfeeding

• Indicate at least 1 micronutrient that a lactating female needs to consume during breastfeeding. Include the recommended amount based on RDAs and provide at least 2 examples of foods that contain this nutrient.

• Include graphics to make the brochure creative and informative. • Correct grammar, sentence structure and word usage. No jargon. • Include at least two references. The course textbook counts as one reference.

All references should follow APA style format, and should be submitted on a separate page from the brochure.
