The Waste Land

The Waste Land (10/26) The Waste Land was written in the years following the end of the war. Thus, it has the benefit of having had time to reflect on the war-it’s not as immediate an issue as it is for West, or for the poets.

How has Eliot incorporated the experience or understanding of the war into his writing?

Look at the imagery in particular (the descriptive use of language to create a picture in the reader’s mind).

Select one image from the excerpt and analyze it in terms of its response to the war-what feelings does it evoke?

What issues does it raise?

What specific words are important for understanding the impact of the war on the text?
