this space to explore

In this assignment, you’ll be writing a blog post that tells your readers what they need to know about blogging. Your post should be at least two to three paragraphs long and should function as a how-to guide for novice bloggers.

Make sure to address the following questions in your post:
How should a great blog be designed and formatted?
What kind of features should a great blog include?
How should a great blog use different types of media?
What might the future of blogging hold?
There is probably no single right answer to any of these questions. What’s important is that you try to convince people of your opinions. Try to be specific and use plenty of concrete examples.

Step 1: Understand the Assignment
Rewrite the assignment in your own words. Underline any important words that help you focus on the task.

Step 2: Make Observations and Form Opinions
Review your notes from the lessons for information that might help you with the assignment.
It would be very hard to write a guide on blogging unless you’d spent some time on blogs that already exist. Choose a blog that was discussed in the unit or one you found on your own. Write the name of the blog below. Then briefly describe it. Why does the blog exist?

<br

How is this blog designed and formatted? Write down at least two specific details. What do you like about what you see? What don’t you like?

What features does this blog include? Write down at least two specific features. Which features do you like? Which don’t you like?

What media does this blog use? Try to find as many different types of media on the blog as you can. Which media do you find useful? Which do you find useless?

Is there some feature that you think the blog is missing? Can you think of something that would make the blog better?

Step 3: Organize Your Thoughts
Use the table below to write down the things you liked and didn’t like about the blog you just examined. Think of features that a blog ideally should include — or avoid at all costs!

Step 4: Write Your Post
Using your ideas and notes above, as well as any new ideas that come to you as you work, write at least two to three paragraphs that describe to others what they need to know about blogging. Provide plenty of examples and specific details to help your audience understand your opinions. Use a separate piece of paper if you need more room.

Step 5: Read Back and Revise
When you’re done writing, review your work and make sure what you’ve written reads smoothly. Write in complete sentences and include everything you want to say. Remember to provide plenty of details and examples. And be sure to fix spelling or grammar errors. Good work!

Step 6: Brainstorm Your Creative Response
Now that you’ve created a guide to making a great blog, take a moment to let yourself be inspired. What kind of blog might you want to create? Perhaps you’d like to create a blog like the ideal one you just described. Or maybe after writing your blog post, you’ve decided you’d rather create a different sort of blog. Remember, no single blog is better than all the rest. Thousands of blogs succeed in what they aim to do. What would your blog be about?

Any medium is fine for your creative response! For this brainstorm, express your ideas any way you want — a list, bubbles, random notes written in any order, doodles, drawings, colors — whatever helps get your ideas flowing. Feel free to come up with a lot of ideas from which you can pick one for the next step. Or just come up with one idea and use this space to explore what form (or forms) your blog would take. Have fun!

Step 7: Present Your Creative Ideas

Now decide how you would like to present your ideas for a blog to an audience. You don’t have to create your blog yet (although you are welcome to!). You just need to describe the blog you’d like to create in the future.

Some options for your presentation include:
Write a paragraph description of the blog you’d like to create.
Make a clear list of ideas for your blog and the media it will include.
Make a visual presentation about the blog you’d like to create.
Make an audio recording or video sample of your idea.
Use a separate piece of paper (or other technology) to present your ideas in a clear and engaging way.
