Paper 2 Unit V Reflection Paper Reflective

A job is simply a paycheck, or a means to the end. A job helps an individual support his or her family and to pay rent. Although a job might not be terrible, it offers little satisfaction. On the other hand, a career refers to the gratification that arises from advancing through the ranks, earning raises, and promotions. Such factors motivate a careerist to put extra work to attain higher ranks (Wilt, Bleidorn, & Revelle, 2016). However, a careerist becomes frustrated and unsatisfied when career progression stops. A vocation is a work that you do for its sake. At times, you feel that you can still do the work even if you are not paid. I believe I am a gifted human resource professional. I love all functions of HR especially recruiting.

The etymology of a vacation versus a career is most revealing. The word vocation denotes a voice summoning an individual to a unique purpose. Birthright gifts are what makes us unique, with a unique purpose and special talents that we can give to the world and others. HR is my vocation. I feel that my work has an effect on the greater good and an impact beyond myself. I trust that HR utilizes my unique gifts and talents. I believe that I was meant to pursue HR. I know that I am more satisfied that those with a career and those with a job. A vocation encompasses more than the work I am paid for. It taps my whole life purpose. I believe that HR is my calling since my life is full of joy, satisfaction, and true fulfillment. I am passionate about performing HR functions and helping other people.

A call comes from within. An individual is called to bring seeds to fruition. The seeds are planted when an individual is born (“Finding meaning can extend your life”, 2015). Some people believe that the seeds are planted by God while others believe that they are planted by chance. I believe that my gift existed before my incarnation. I chose HR from within, not on the basis of approval, security, or prestige. I have always wanted to make a difference in people’s life since I was a child. At some point, I had to embrace my calling and shut off the voices of other people who thought that I ought to pursue a different field.

Pursuing a vocation is a worthwhile endeavor. I believe everyone should be satisfied to work in a job that supports his family and allows him or her to earn a living. I plan to grow and develop to the greatest extent possible. For that reason, I intend to be tested, stretch my capabilities to the limit, and maximize all my potential. Pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership will create exposure to opportunities that might help me grow and develop to the greatest potential possible. I believe that a true vocation is realized by discovering one’s gifts and passion. My calling fits the education I am pursuing.
