1988-89, I was working as a junior computer programmer for Discopy Lab Inc., Santa Clara CA. Company used to make millions of disc copies of software such as; Borland, Symantec, etc..,. My job was to write programs to print labels including serial number and warranty cards for each disc. It became very easy for me after couple years. I used to copy old programs and modify them according to my new requirement(s).

One day company got almost 1.5 million copies order from Borland and I have to print labels. As usual I did copy one program and modified it. I checked it few times for any mistake before I started printing labels. All went fine and labels were sent to packaging and shipping department. Manager in packaging department noticed that serial numbers are not right after serial number 999999 and notified the manager/CEO/owner Ms. Antonio Tu.

Ms. TU was very upset because to get more labels from Borland might take a month. She asked me what happened and why I did not ask someone to recheck my program since it was a very big order. To avoid this kind of mistake in future she asked me to prepare a procedure, a letter explaining what happened and copy of the program I used for printing. I don’t remember exactly what happened that time but it seems that I had a fixed character zero in front of serial number and after 999999 it messed up with serial numbers.

I prepared all the documents Ms. Tu asked me to prepare. I don’t remember if I used typewriter or computer and that time proofreading was difficult so I gave all the documents to my manager. I had no planning or thinking, I just wrote the documents. My manager told me that it is unnecessarily long and very hard to understand what message I want to convey. He revised, edited and guided me how to write these documents since this project was time bound.

I have chosen these three topics for this assignment;

· A foreign location

· Deforestation

· Ethnic food

Egypt through the eyes of participation and observation, I visited this country on my way to visit another country and I had a very short stay there. I got very curious about this land of Pyramids. After I came back to USA I started participating and observing about Egypt. I have seen few videos, documentaries, books, articles etc. about Egypt. What I am going to share is my own observations after putting lots of thoughts in to it. Egypt in old Indian text is called “MISHR” means “mixture”, and it make sense because it was a mixture point for Africa, Europe and Asia. Scholars have searched all the languages including Hebrew to find why river’s name is Nile but to no use only Indian old language Sanskrit has name Neel (means blue) for its blue water. Word Pyramid is a combination of two Sanskrit words (I don’t want to share it but both words make sense to this name Pyramid). Pyramids are approximately 6miles/9KM away from river Nile and scholars’ explanation for it is that river has shifted its course. To me if the meaning of Pyramid is as I explained above then first Pyramid in Sakkara is at the right place and river shifting course does not change the real meaning of Pyramid. One of the oldest texts in India mention about a scholar, Mathematician, named Sukracharya. He used to do mummification of his wounded soldiers. He was advisor to a king and was thrown out of kingdom. And no wonder first Pyramid is named Sakkara.

Deforestation is a worldwide problem created by human being and you cannot avoid being an observant and participant about this issue. Rapidly growing population is the main reason for deforestation because we need clear land for housings and farming. Use of paper product is also added to this problem. We not only loose natural resources but quality of air we breathe declines and also we get less rain. I have seen this problem getting bigger and worst as I was growing old. We should have strict Government policies in place to check the misuse of forest.

Ethnic food is part of our growing up and that’s why observation and participation are natural part of it. I am from India migrated to the USA 35 years back. I used to drive to New York if I wanted to enjoy ethnic Indian food in my early days in USA. Now we have Indian restaurant everywhere. There was a myth that India food is fatty because heavy use of butter. I find it less fatty and healthier than most ethnic food. Tandoori (Clay oven) food is healthy and tastes great. Tandoori naan (bread) and chicken are ethnic food. Indian foods have dishes in Vegetarian and non-vegetarian. There are some appetizers should be avoided or should not be eaten aplenty such as; fried samosa and pakoras. Pani poori is a must have dish. Please see Pani Poori’s translation from Wikipedia below:

Mr. Robert, a colleague of mine wants to spend few days of his vacation in my hometown. Since he never been to that part of the world, he wants to get as much as details he can such as; places of interest, history, nearby airport, Transportation, medical facilities, and weather conditions from me. I visit my hometown Gurugram, India quite often and that’s why I have up to date information about my hometown.

My hometown “GURUGAM” is in the vicinity of Indian capital New Delhi. International airport IGI (Indira Gandhi International) is approximately 25 miles from Gurugram. Town used to be called Gurgaon until recently, state Government changed it back to its original name Gurugram. Brief history of the town is that it was given to a teacher approximately 5200 years back to use as a place to teach martial art to princes of Delhi and that’s why it is called a village (Gram) of a teacher (Guru).

This town has few beautiful lakes, mainly Badkhal Lake. It is very close to New Delhi and New Delhi is loaded with historical monuments, museums, and forts. Public transportation is easily available such as; buses, metro trains, taxis, etc. Metro system is very similar to New York’s subway system. I will strongly suggest to my friend to be very careful renting a taxi or visiting alone in some area. There will be plenty of street vendors selling foods and some of them cater to foreigners. He should carry enough drinking water bottles with him so he does not have to purchase from street vendors. There are lots of world class hotels/motels in Gurugram and New Delhi. He can visit most or all of the sites using metro trains. My friend should visit Red fort which was built by Emperor Shah Jahan, who built Taj Mahal in Agra. Qutab Minar, Himayun’s tomb, Lodhi’s Garden, and Jama Masjid (largest in Asia) are very close to Red Fort and can be visited at same time. Shanti Sathal (Peace Place) where Gandhi’s tomb is built and most foreign dignitaries visit Shanti Sathal. For night time food and shopping, there are markets such as; Chandni Chowk, and Poorani Delhi (old Delhi) and are very close to Red fort. Mr. Robert, can take train to Agra to visit Taj Mahal and Red fort.

Weather can be hot and humid but after the monsoon season it gets very pleasant. I will recommend that best time to visit India is from the months of October to March. Medical Facilities, Pharmacies, Doctors are available everywhere and can be reached easily. Since U.S. Dollar have great value compare to Indian currency Rupee, my friend will feel that things are way cheaper i
