In this scenario you have recently been hired by a Public Health department in a rural community. The department has never had an Epidemiologist on staff and they are not entirely sure what epidemiology is. Your new boss has asked you to conduct a training session for the rest of the staff to orient them to the field of epidemiology.

  1. Prepare by registering for this training site: www.train.org Registration is free. Complete the Training, What is Epidemiology in Public Health? Course ID 1016592. Submit your certificate of completion to the Dropbox.
  2. Create a PowerPoint® presentation that provides an overview of Epidemiology.

Requirements

The presentation should be visually appealing, geared toward a professional audience, and should include the following sections:

  • A cover slide with your name and presentation title (1 slide)
  • An explanation of what epidemiology is (1 slide)
  • A short timeline of epidemiology – The timeline should include important people and events in epidemiological history over the last 100 years. (7–10 slides)
  • An overview of the different types of epidemiology including environmental, social, community, and forensic (4–6 slides)
  • An explanation/example of how clinical and epidemiological perspectives of a health issue vary (1–2 slides)
  • Links to a least two additional resources that provide information where people can learn more about epidemiology – Provide the link and a brief description of what the resource is. (1–2 slides)
  • Reference slide(s)
  • Include speaker notes for each slide.
