I chose Anorexia Nervosa only due in part because I watched something about it on t.v. and I couldn’t believe what I saw. So I dug deep to see what or if something is being done about it.

FEDERAL: A policy-based nonprofit organization EDC (eating disorders coalition) was founded in 2000. The mission is to advance the federal recognition of eating disorders as a public health priority. The policy priorities guides all its efforts to increase federal support for eating disorder research, treatment resources, access to care and to train health professionals. The only federal eating disorder bill that ever passed into public law was a congressional resolution in the Senate in 1989.

STATE: Many hospitals and treatment facilities accept Medicaid and Medicare. They may not have staff members with experience in treating eating disorders. So if the treatment center is a mental health facility check whether it is funded by county, state or federal funds.

LOCALOne project, ” The Elisa Project “, provides a list of resources for treatment and support groups. This is a non-profit organization and solely operates through donations and volunteers. Some places that recieve public funds do provide treatment and sometimes that treatment is over the top.

I am choosing combating terrorism efforts and I will be discussing the three levels.

Federal: Federal Agencies stay in communication and coordinate efforts in the aide of the state and local areas with training, mobilizing and funding.  The Federal Agency set the standards for the agencies to follow.  Since the September 11th attacks funding from the Federal level has increased and been given to the state and local levels to help implement training in preparedness activities.  A Federal Agency on the state level is FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).  FEMA coordinates aides to all in the U.S and also territories of the U.S.

State:  Policies on the State level has also changed dramatically.  More and more emphasis is placed on preparing for acts of terrorism through training on all levels.  State police has also received training in order to learn how to be well organized in the event of terrorist attack to help out on the local level.  The National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) is an organization that surveys the response plan and preparedness of states.

Local:  On a local level, communities bring proper education on what to do in the event of terrorism.  In schools, they have developed drills for students to adhere to in the event of said acts.  Hospitals has received funding and training in order to be able to handle mass casualties.  The National League of Cities (NLC) and National Association of Counties (NACO) also surveys the response and preparedness of local areas.
