Final Paper

By the end of this course you should have a greater understanding of the health education profession. For the Final Project, you will submit a paper that includes the following three parts: an examination of the health education field and profession, an analysis of an HIV prevention program, and the creation of a health education website focusing on heart disease. The first two parts will make up the majority of the paper that you will submit, but you will also need to supply a description of the website you create, the information it contains, and the website’s URL in your paper. It is advised that you create the description of your website before you actually build it to ensure that it contains all the required components.

Your website must meet the following inclusion criteria:

  • A minimum of three pages: a home page and at least two other web pages.
  • A brief introduction to heart disease and its effect on your chosen population which includes data that supports the need for and purpose of this education.

Small Business Expansion Strategy

Assignment: Small Business Expansion Strategy

Have you ever gone on a trip and wished you could have packed your favorite local small business in your suitcase and taken it with you? What is so special about this business that it would make you want to have its services or products available to you wherever you are located?

For this Assignment, you will identify a local small business in your area, and develop a strategy for expanding that business in either a regional, national, or global market.

In your 2- to 3-page paper, be sure to address the following:

  • Identify the business you selected, and provide a brief description of the services provided.
  • Identify which geographic market you selected (regional, national, or global).
  • Why do you believe the business could succeed in this new geographic market?
  • What are the benefits of expanding into this geographic market?
  • What are the risks of expanding into this market?
  • What obstacles will the business have to overcome? Take into consideration seasonality and supply chain management (i.e. vendors, raw materials, in-bound logistics).
  • What strategies will help lead the business to success over the initial year of the expansion? Justify your response.
  • What strategies will help lead the business to success over the next three to five years? Justify your response.

First Amendment

W6 Assignment: First Amendment

Introduction to Philosophy

The First Amendment

There are three parts to this assignment.

Part One

The First Amendment actually says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Our Founding Fathers were very familiar with the writings of John Locke, and the need to keep government and religions separate was just as important to them as guaranteeing the toleration of different religious beliefs.

• What were Locke’s three primary reasons for keeping government and religion separate? Which one of those reasons do you think is the most applicable today, and why?

Part Two

Many people misread the First Amendment and think it is advocating “freedom from religion” rather than “freedom of religion.” They use this misreading to ban symbols of religion from public places.

• From what you know about Locke, explain whether or not you think that Locke’s view of religious toleration would require the removal of religious symbols from the public view. Be sure to provide evidence for your position that is based on logical reasoning rather than emotional reactions. Feel free to quote from the textbook to support what you believe would be Locke’s position concerning the government prohibiting the display of religious symbols.

• Also, based on what Locke has said, do you think there ever could be times that it would be legitimate for the government to suppress a religion or some of their beliefs because of that religion’s extreme practices—even if what they are doing is not breaking the law? Why or why not?

Part Three

Regardless of how you answered the second question, Mill (a father of Liberalism) insists that progress and happiness (for both the individual and society) is only possible when each person is able to express himself openly and fully about the things important to him. The criticism of this liberal view is that left to our own devises, the diversity in our pursuits of individual goals and interests will lead to disputes, and, thus, rules and regulations are needed to allow individuals to develop their goals within a more structured society and so they can learn their social obligations to the community as a whole. The problem with liberalism, the critics say, is that by making our ability to choose for ourselves the highest objective, we may embrace the notion of diversity, but we are no longer interested in tolerating differences or even in considering how to integrate the diversity of ideas into a cohesive society made up of individuals. Ultimately, then, following this line of thought, the toleration of a diversity of religions leads to a disunity within the community and a disinterest in social responsibility.

• If the above conclusions about liberalism are true, would restricting religious diversity to five or six major religions in the United States still give people a choice in how they worship but also eliminate some of the religious divisiveness which separates people (whether through stereotyping or other forms of prejudice) and prevents the citizenry as a whole from viewing itself as a single nation in which we all cooperate and work together for the common good? In other words, is all of this religious toleration actually dividing us even further rather than uniting us as a society? Be sure to explain your thinking with examples and detailed reasons.

Instructions for your paper

The paper should follow APA formatting and rely on only your own ideas and those from the textbook. Please make sure that it is at least 600 words and no more than 900 words.

Other Criteria:

Title your Project

· After identifying your topic, use quotations or paraphrase from your sources to help illustrate the point you are making (be sure to identify the author(s) and source(s)).

· After you have given support, spend a sentence or two explaining how the example(s) support the section topic.

· A compilation of your research, your literature review, your methods, (how the data was collected or generated and analyzed), and your results should be included in the body of your project.

Conclusion:

· Restate your thesis. This means that you say about the same thing as you did in your thesis, but you say it differently.

· After stating your thesis, restate the topics from each of your body sections and emphasize what is important for your audience/readers to remember.

· End your conclusion with a call to action that illustrates what your audience/readers should do with the information you presented.

Please note: You will have the opportunity to revise and perfect this project, but you should do your best to make each step as complete as possible so you can receive more relevant and constructive feedback from your instructor and your peers

“Liberty or Security”

W6 DQ1 “Liberty or Security”

Introduction to Philosophy

Liberty or Security

Benjamin Franklin once said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Security, deserve neither Liberty nor Security.”

That quote actually reveals two very different kind of thinking. On one hand, egalitarianism focuses on a strong central government which uses taxes and so forth to redistribute the wealth of the nation in order to promote equality among the citizens. Libertarianism, on the other hand, focuses more on individual rights, and, regretfully, the right to fail (and some people will) is a part of justice, which means that everyone should be getting what he or she has earned or deserves (including punishment, if necessary).

So, in the same way that it appears in Franklin’s quote that there is a conflict between individual freedoms and national security, it also appears that we have a conflict between equality and justice. The debate between egalitarianism and libertarianism is on-going and always seems to be tilted toward one of the poles of this duality.

• At the current moment, which tendency do you believe seems to be the dominant thinking in this country? Give at least two examples to illustrate your answer.

• Next, pretend you are writing a letter to your Senator, because you believe that you have come up with a solution that would, in your opinion, restore a balance between the two extremes in order, as Franklin suggested, to have and deserve both liberty and security again? Be sure to provide enough information, so your Senator will be able to understand the details of your plan that would guarantee both equality and justice.
