the denotative meaning

we find that the denotative meaning is “a word’s literal meaning or dictionary definition.”  Conversely, the connotative meaning is “a word’s implied or secondary meaning, in addition to its literal meaning.”  Can you think of other examples that are not in the book?  Secondly, do you think that this gets into political correctness?  Do you think it has gone too far or not far enough?  Or is society right where it should be?  For example, settlers and migrants have the same denotative meaning, but some might argue that connotatively, settlers (“founding fathers”) has a more positive connotative meaning.
