·         In Week 1 and Week 2 we read about how the Egyptians depicted the human figure. For example, if we look at King Narmer on his palette, we can see that Egyptians adhered to artificial conventions that may seem odd to us. Describe one of these “Conventions” of how the Egyptian figure is depicted – Why do you think they did this?  Assignment  1

  • Styles

Compare the pre-unification Theban style to that of the block statue style that began in the early Twelfth Dynasty.  Where do you see we see the most notable difference?  (Look at faces, heads, shoulders, arms and legs, body size.)

Look at two of the greatest of Egypt’s temples:  Amun at Karnak and Luxor.  Using at least research source outside of our text, pick out a specific feature of one or the other and tell what you think this feature tells us about the Egyptian religion or the kingship.
