The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

 1-The research paper should discuss a major character, theme, or issue in one of the literary works of any of the authors we are reading in the course (one of the required readings). The paper should be at least three pages long and should include at least one good secondary source.

The following are possible topics for your paper: 1) a generous and noble character in a fairy tale; 2) the interaction of Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones in Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”; 3) the relationship of Georgiana and Aylmer in Hawthorne’s “The Birthmark”; 4) the theme of faith in Hawthorne’s “Young Goodman Brown”; 5) a comparative study of two characters or two themes in fairy tales or in other stories; 6) the need for a sense of independence (or the need for a sense of liberation from the oppression of one’s surroundings) in Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper”; 7) the power of the imagination in Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper”; 8) the theme of good versus evil in Cinderella; 9) the theme of inner beauty (for example, in “Cinderella” or in “The Ugly Duckling”).
