The Truth About Stories

Thomas King’s The Truth About Stories argues that stories shape who we are as individuals and as societies. In Chapter 1 King explores how different stories shape our understanding of the world by using the example of two creation myths.

This week, our discussion will be guided by the following questions. You do not have to specifically answer every question in the order they appear,  but you should use specific textual references (including parenthetical citations with page number) in every post.

How does the belief in a certain creation story shape the way we see the world, according to King?  How is King’s worldview shaped by the story about Charm? What are the fundamental differences between the story about Adam and Eve and the story about Charm? Why do you think King focuses on creation stories so much and why does he tell us these stories?
