Training and development opportunities

Your task for this week is to:

· Prepare a 1–3 page description of an organization (or sub-group or department within an organization) that has a problem or is in need of improvement

· Provide enough detail in your written description so that others understand the essence of the situation. Include the following in your description:

· The size and nature of the organization (or sub-group or department within an organization)

· The organizational structure (how long has the current structure been in place, how long has the current management staff been in place)

· Formal and informal communication patterns

· Longevity and retention patterns or turnover rates among members of the organization

· Opportunities for advancement within the organization

· Training and development opportunities offered or supported within the organization

· Opportunities for employee input into operations, decisions, or other aspects of the organization

· Do not include your ideas about potential solutions, only a description of the problem

· Include no personally identifying information, titles, or names (except your own on the paper)

This will be your organizational case study that you will work with during this course.

Additional preparation:

As part of next week’s project assignment, you will need to interview people in the organization about how they see and feel about the current state and possible change. Complete the following tasks this week, in preparation for next week’s assignment:

1. Identify three people at different levels in the organization to interview.

2. Schedule an interview with each person for next week.

3. Prepare a list of five to six questions you would like to ask each person in the interview. Your questions should be open-ended to allow the interviewees to expand on their observations as needed.

By Friday, February 28, 2014, submit your organizational case study to M1: Assignment 3 Dropbox. Use the following file naming convention:

LastnameFirstInitial_M1_A3.doc For example, if your name is John Smith, your document will be named SmithJ_M1_A3.doc

Also post your interview schedule (name of person, designation, interview date and time) and questionnaire to the M1: Assignment 3 Dropbox. Use the following file naming convention:

LastnameFirstInitial_M1_A3a.doc For example, if your name is John Smith, your document will be named SmithJ_M1_A3a.doc
