Rather than give you a fictitious organizational situation, I am asking you to apply your knowledge of human motivation to a real scenario.  I call this a “living case” opportunity.  The Living Case video will feature Head Coach John Bonamego (Coach Bono) of CMU’s Football Team.  The topic of the case is Motivation.  Coach Bonoprovides a presentation about his background and the principles he uses to motivate others based upon his coaching career from highschool to college to the NFL.   After viewing his presentation, you will need to address the four questions and requested descriptions below.

A SAMPLE CASE WRITE-UP HAS BEEN PROVIDED FOR YOUR VIEWING WITHIN THE COURSE Bb SHELL.  USE IT TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR WRITE-UP!

Here are the questions and descriptions required for the Living Case assignment.

  1. Describe Coach Bono’s basic assumptions regarding motivation.  That is, what are the underlying principles which guide (and have guided) Coach Bono as he motivates (and has motivated) student-athletes, professional players, and others?
  2. Describe the theories of motivation (based upon those frameworks of motivation presented in the text such as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Goal Setting Theory, Expectancy Theory, Equity Theory, the Job Characteristics Model, etc.) which best describe Coach Bono’s motivational actions.
  3. Describe how Coach Bono uses different motivational approaches for different types of people (i.e., individuals) or situations (i.e., day to day practices, workouts, or a game).
  4. From your personal perspective, describe several important lessons a new manager could learn from Coach Bono regarding how to motivate others to higher levels of performance.

Please provide complete and detailed answers to all four items.  A typical paper will be a minimum of 6 pages in length using doubled spaced text and normal one (1) inch margins.  There is no page limit for the written assignment.  Generally speaking, “more is better.”  Make sure you provide specific and detailed examples from the Speaker’s presentation and his/her answers to your questions in addressing the above items.  It is required that you reference material from the textbook and/or the recorded lectures to support your assertions as stated in the paper.  You don’t have to use any particular citation format.  For example you could say “On page XXX in the text, Equity Theory is described as . . .”   I think this relates to the Speaker’s approach to motivation as . . .”

Describe the environmental history for the area(s)/region(s) impacted, including the environmental disasters that have taken place and their immediate- and long-term impacts on the population’s health in this region. Wherever appropriate, include a description of the population(s) in the region, along with demographics and population sizes. This should take approximately 4–5 slides.

¢In this assignment, you will select one region of the world with known environmental issues and create a timeline of the events in this area, going back no more than 200 years. For example, you could choose to focus on the Gulf Coast in the United States and its history of hurricanes, floods, and the recent oil spill; the Love Canal disaster in New York; the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown in Ukraine; or Canada’s tar-sands in Alberta. Each of these areas has a history of environmental problems that have impacted populations, and their health, drastically.
¢To help identify a region with known environmental events for this assignment, consult your textbook, the WHO Public Health and Environment Program’s Web site, and the UNEP’s Web site. Please be sure to support your public health analysis of these environmental issues with evidence-based research.
¢Using this timeline of events, create a presentation analyzing the environmental issues in this region, including the following topics/issues:
¢History—A brief timeline: Describe the environmental history for the area(s)/region(s) impacted, including the environmental disasters that have taken place and their immediate- and long-term impacts on the population’s health in this region. Wherever appropriate, include a description of the population(s) in the region, along with demographics and population sizes. This should take approximately 4–5 slides.
¢The factors that caused these disasters and public health outcomes in this area. Be sure to list all known causative factors at play and whether they are caused by humans and/or are natural. This should take approximately 2–3 slides.
¢An analysis of how these events have impacted or will impact the health and/or disease risk of this region of the world. Be sure to address other determinants of health—social, economic, cultural, and other environmental factors—in your analysis that influence or will influence the magnitude of environmental events on health outcomes in this region. Examine whether you are focusing on a region with primarily developed or developing countries and explain how this influences current and future health outcomes. This should take approximately 4–5 slides.
¢A summary of past, current, and proposed efforts that aim to help combat the effects of these environmental issues/threats on health (local and/or global), including emergency response planning and prevention efforts. This should take approximately 3–4 slides.
¢Three recommendations for strategies to protect populations in this region from poor health outcomes due to these environmental issues. Be sure that your three recommendations are supported with evidence-based research. These could include long-term policies, emergency response plans, or public health programs that would protect public health in the region. This should take approximately 3–4 slides.
¢References used for the project in APA format. This should take approximately 2–3 slides.
¢Be sure to include detailed speaker notes for each slide to elaborate on what you would say while presenting your material.
¢Develop a 20–25-slide presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint format.

Papers that have excessive problems with grammar, punctuation, spelling or typos will not be accepted. Your paper must be computer generated. Should an emergency or crises arise, you must notify me as soon as possible and an exception may or may not be made.

Early in the semester, you will need to locate a current event article that includes a communication case study. You will be asked to turn in a two-three-page critique of the article and also discuss it in a small group. In your paper, you will cite the appropriate communication issues, successes, problems, etc., and offer alternative solutions using the knowledge you’ve gained during the first half of this course. All of the aforementioned writing rules will apply to this assignment. Good sources are the Harvard Business Review, Business Week, Times, Fortune magazine, etc.

Basically, I’d like you to find an article about a business case and the case should involve a communication related problem. Your task would be to summarize the case in the first section of the paper. What are the details of the situation, who was involved, and how did it go wrong? In the second part of the paper, offer recommendations for how to improve the communication portion of the issue based upon what we are learning from the text. What could be done or should have been done to repair this mistake or improve what others think as a result of this mistake? Cite the text throughout the second part of the paper.

Referencing:   Double check that you have good citation of references both in your text and in the reference list. This applies to every work you

submit to your supervisor (i.e. thesis statement, first and final drafts).  Make sure to COMPLETELY AVOID PLAGIARISM. There are two kinds of plagiarism:  A. Copying others’ work without citation (e.g. copying from a website and not mentioning that website in-text and/or in the reference list). B. Copying others’ words as if they are yours. This is when you cite the reference you quoted directly from and fail to use direct quotation: (use quotation marks if the quoted text is fewer than 40 words and an in-dented paragraph if the quoted text is more than 40 words). Please note that it is not acceptable to have all of your literature review section quoted directly.  Every reference you use MUST be cited twice:

(1) In the text (e.g. in the literature review section). This can be done in two ways:  a. When copying the words of other authors, the reference is cited within the paragraph you are quoting from, right after you use quotation marks, for example: “Knowledge is fundamental” Hardy, 2002, pp. 23-45. b. When reporting the words of others in your own words, the reference is cited within the paragraph, for example:  Hardy (2002) suggests that knowledge is essential. Or In his book The Importance of Knowledge, Hardy (2002) showed how knowledge is very important.  (2) In the reference list at the end of your submitted work. Refer to the instructions for creating a reference list at the end of section (7) below.

7- Your first draft MUST INCLUDE ALL of the following sections:  A. Title     H. Research Methodology  B. Table of Contents    I. Ethical Consideration (Only if you are collecting   C. Abstract        data from participants. Not required for all topics.) D. Introduction    J. Limitations of the study E. Literature review    K. Expected Results F. Significance of Research   L. References G. Research Question    M. Appendix (Only if needed. See below.) Here is a brief description of each of these sections:  A. Title Write the title of your research proposal on the first page (cover page) with your name and academic num-ber. The title needs to be specific. For example: Language Acquisition is general Language Acquisition in Saudi Arabia is still general Using X to Improve Reading Skills of Saudi Students at the Elementary Stage (a study on students at Y school in Z city) is acceptable because it is a specific title. B. Table of Contents Add a table of contents on the second page that shows each of the sections below with the page number of each section.

As Bailey’s controller, you have been asked to recommend to the board whether to declare a dividend this year and, if so, whether the precedent of paying a $1 per share dividend can be maintained. The president is eager to keep the dividend at $1 in view of the successful year jut completed. He is also concerned, however, about the effect of a dividend on the company’s cash position. He is particularly concerned about the large amount of notes payable that comes due next year. He further notes the aggressive growth pattern in recent years, as evidenced this year by large increases in land and plant and equipment.

Required:

1. Prepare in good form a Statement of Cash Flows using both the direct and indirect methods.
2. What do you recommend to the board of directors concerning the declaration of a cash dividend? Should the $1 per share dividend be declared? Should a smaller amount be declared? Should no dividend be declared? Support your answer with necessary computations. From a cash flow perspective, include in your response your concerns about the following year. Be sure to use proper grammar and punctuation.

Task 2

Instructions: There are two levels of plot going on in Othello. One is the personal plot that unfolds around the relationships between the characters—Othello, Lago, Desdemona, Cassio, Rodrigo, and Emelia.  The other plot is the more public one in which Venice is at war with the Turks.  How do these plots intersect, and do they overlap in terms of some of the main themes of the play?  For instance, don’t overlook the line in Act I, iii, regarding where the Turks are headed in their ships—“or this cannot be, by no assay of reason: ’tis a pageant,to keep us in false gaze.”
